Night & City Lights

Fujifilm film simulation recipes built for night — neon, streetlights and low light, with cool shadows and warm highlights straight out of camera.

Night is where a film simulation earns its keep. Mixed artificial light — neon, sodium streetlights, headlamps, shop windows — confuses the camera’s auto white balance and crushes shadow detail. A good night recipe takes a point of view instead of fighting the scene.

How to think about night recipes

Three moves do most of the work. Lean the white balance toward tungsten (around 3200–3700K) so artificial lights render warm and the rest of the frame falls cool — that teal-and-orange split is the whole cinematic-night look. Protect the highlights (Highlight −1 to −2) so signs and lamps don’t clip to white blobs. And stop fighting noise — push ISO freely and let grain do aesthetic work; clean digital night shots look sterile, grainy ones look like film.

Classic Chrome and Eterna are the natural bases here — muted enough that neon doesn’t go cartoonish. Save the punchy daylight simulations for the day.
